Feeling unsure about leaving your kids alone during the day for the first time this summer? Prepare them, and ease your own mind with a “Home Alone” workshop hosted by the Plymouth Fire Department. This helpful workshop will teach children ages 8–10 how to respond in the event of an emergency through a variety of safety scenarios and issues led by Plymouth firefighters. Children will work interactively with the firefighters to learn about crime prevention in the home, fire escape plans, severe weather awareness and even Internet safety. This family event at Golden Valley city hall will test kids’ safety skills as they navigate their bikes through a short obstacle course supervised by police personnel. After the obstacle fun, families will have the opportunity to receive free safety checks for their bicycles, enjoy refreshments and enter a door-prize drawing. 763.531.5151. The Fare Walk for Food Allergy brings together thousands of people seeking a safer world for the 15 million Americans with food allergies. The walk is a family-friendly event that will raise funds for food allergy research, education, advocasy and awareness. This special day in Minneapolis will include fun activities for the entire family. Show cabin-fever-ridden preschoolers how fun winter can be, and sneak some learning in as well, by dropping them off at French Regional Park’s Outdoor Kids Club. This month club members learn the basics of cross-country skis with help from Three Rivers professionals. At the end of the day, your child will put together a letter that will help them teach you about everything they’ve learned, so you can benefit from their lesson as well.
