Organization Description: Hammer Residences, Inc. is a Minnesota non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Founded in 1923 by Alvina Hammer, Hammer provides residential caring support for adult and children with developmental disabilities. Hammer Residences, Inc. serves more than 1500 individuals with a wide range of intellectual disabilities like Autism and Down syndrome. 275 adults reside in 36 group homes and 10 apartment programs in the western suburbs of Minneapolis.
Breanna’s Star is a Night of Art, Celebration and Giving in support of Breanna’s Gift, an organization bringing classes & workshops in visual arts, dance, music, theater and “Art Takeout” to children at Ronald McDonald House Upper Midwest and Children’s Minnesota in St. Paul and Minneapolis. The event includes appetizers, wine and beer, silent and live auctions, a make-it-yourself art project and entertainment by country/rock/swing band Trailer Trash. Attire is casual.
Alzheimer’s Association annual Purple Gala is a time to celebrate and honor the
lives of people impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The evening
includes a reception and silent auction followed by a gourmet dinner, live
auction, entertainment, and after party with a live band. Proceeds from the
Gala raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

When a backdraft explosion occurred in 2010, Jake LaFerriere, a Minneapolis firefighter, suffered third- and fourth-degree burns. Shortly after, he founded Firefighters for Healing to help with emotional and financial support for burn survivors and their families. This festive gala benefits the organization.

Orono artist Steve Noonan will perform with a full band: original music, 12-string guitar, melodic rock. 100% of proceeds benefit Breast Cancer Research, Locks of Love, ALS Research, 8 to a Lamp (building schools in Tanzania) and the Orono Rotary. For the second year in a row, dozens of local retailers will participate in an alternative campaign to Black Friday, known as Plaid Friday. Started five years ago in Oakland, Calif., Plaid Friday encourages consumers to put their holiday gift dollars back into the local economy by shopping at stores in their own communities.
