DESCRIPTION:Community members interested in learning how Plymouth balances environmental stewardship with citywide snow and ice removal are invited to attend a Winter Maintenance Open House 2–5 p.m. January 23 at the Plymouth Maintenance Facility. \nHeld this year in recognition of Winter Salt Awareness Week\, January 26–30\, the open house offers community members the opportunity to learn about the city’s winter maintenance practices\, explore snowplows and other anti-icing equipment and tour the salt brine-making building. Attendees may also take a ride in a snowplow at the event\, and children may enter a drawing to win a ride to school in a plow truck. Staff will share the city’s approach to effectively using salt while minimizing its negative impacts on the environment. \nThe event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available while supplies last.

DESCRIPTION:In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month\, the Plymouth Public Safety Department will host a Resilient Community Voices event 6–8 p.m. October 28\, at the Plymouth Community Center. \nThe evening will begin with a resource fair featuring local partners\, including domestic violence shelters\, advocacy organizations\, healthcare and legal resources\, law enforcement and more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit the interactive “Voices Wall\,” a space created to honor survivors\, reflect and share messages of support. \nAt 7 p.m.\, a panel discussion will bring together community experts to talk about prevention\, intervention and the challenges within systems that impact those experiencing domestic violence. The conversation will conclude with a question-and-answer session. \nTo close the evening\, participants are invited to take part in a 20-minute guided restorative yoga session\, emphasizing the event’s theme of fostering safety\, resilience and community healing through awareness and compassion. \nThe event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

DESCRIPTION:We are hosting a 25 hour gaming charity marathon to help raise money for Extra Life & Gillette Children’s Miracle Network with a group of amazing gamers with Gamers for Good. They will be playing a variety of games for 25 hours and making a big impact for the awesome kids at Gillette Children’s. November 2 marks the 16th year of Extra Life\, which is a national fundraising event where gamers come together to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network through a 24 hour gaming marathon. The Gamers for Good group is a small team of folks who have participated the last 8 years\, and their team alone has raised over $75\,000 for local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in the Minneapolis and Des Moines areas.\n \nThe Luce Line Brewing taproom will be open extra late\, from noon to 1 a.m. We will have raffles for prizes\, games for everyone to be able to play\, late night pajama party and more. Our goal for Luce Line Brewing is to help them raise $5\,000!

DESCRIPTION:The City of Plymouth will hold a free paper shredding event for Plymouth residents 3–6 p.m. October 1 at the Plymouth Maintenance Facility\, 14900 23rd Ave. N. \nResidents may also drop off bicycles to be recycled. \nTo access the Plymouth Maintenance Facility\, all vehicles must enter on 23rd Avenue from Fernbrook Lane only. Vehicles may access Fernbrook Lane from Highway 55. \nFor the safety of all\, residents must stay in their vehicles at all times. On-site staff will retrieve materials from each vehicle. Paper is shredded on-site at the event and is confidentially handled and recycled. \nAccepted Items: Paper and Bicycles \nOnly the following items will be accepted at the event: \n\nPaper – No three-ring binders or binder clips. Paper clips and staples attached to papers are accepted.\nBicycles and bicycle parts\n\nResidents may recycle cardboard boxes and paper bags at the event but must take any non-recyclable containers home. \nThe event is for Plymouth residents only; ID or proof of residency is required.

There will be a short program honoring Austin\, education around brain injury and bike and traffic safety. \nAustin’s Story: Austin Smith was involved in a hit and run while riding his bicycle at the intersection of Rockford Road and Vicksburg Lane. The crash left him blind\, non-verbal\, quadriplegic and with a severe traumatic brain injury. \nSupport the family:  A moment of distraction by another resulted in Austin requiring lifelong care. With your generous support\, this event will help raise funds to bring Austin back home to Minnesota one day so he can live with his family again as he so deserves.
