Twenty years ago I was introduced to a medical system I had never heard of before. A friend returning from South America shared the story of her son's asthma healing after working with a homeopath. Being a total skeptic, I snickered under my breath, yet found myself asking who she had seen. Why? My son had asthma and after years of effort, I was unable to improve his health. I'd tried other options and was finally ready to set my disbelief aside and give this “homeopathy” a try. (The accreditation to become a homeopath involves a four-year program including clinical practice.)
That became the beginning of what more than 300 million people worldwide already knew: Homeopathy works! This old system of medicine, founded by German doctor Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700s, is effective, easy to use and inexpensive. From that point on, homeopathy became part of my family’s health care.
Contrary to popular belief, homeopathy is much more than popping a few vitamin or mineral pills—it is an amazing system of healing based upon the principle of stimulating the body to heal itself, though a well-balanced system can be a part of this. What’s more, it goes beyond just physical problems—it can address mental and emotional issues as well. Homeopathy relies on remedies, which are made from plants, minerals and animal products, prepared through a process call potentization. Remedies have no side effects and can safely be given to children, pregnant women, adults and even animals.
Due to increasing demand a number of remedies are readily available to treat fevers, colds, flu and pain. Even persistent chronic problems can be improved by working with a homeopathic practitioner.
