After having a child and exploring daycare options, Plymouth resident Alise McGregor saw the need for a more challenging, holistic childcare center and took matters into her own hands by creating Lil Newton’s Nest (LNN) in 2009.With an emphasis on a global curriculum (children are exposed to and learn Spanish, French, Italian, Mandarin and American Sign Language), LNN also incorporates math, science, writing, reading and structured free play into its daily, extended 10-hour learning programs.“The U.S. is a small part of our world and having a worldly understanding at such a young age sets a good foundation for the rest of their lives,” McGregor says.When LNN began, it consisted of seven students. Today, it is at full-capacity, with more than 200 enrolled throughout the all-inclusive infant, toddler, preschool and all-day kindergarten programs. Aside from its innovative curriculum, Jenny Ajsenberg, who has one child in LNN now and had another child attend before starting kindergarten, says the all-inclusive aspect was also a big pull when choosing a facility.“They expose our kids to a variety of different things that help them be better learners as they age,” Ajsenberg says. “The fact that it’s in the old Beacon Heights building [a charter school that moved to Maple Grove in 2009], and they provide everything from diapers and wipes to food was definitely an added bonus.” &LNN is almost booked for 2014, but parents can call 763.231.0527 at any time to inquire about openings and registration. 12325 Hwy. 55;
