Summer has stretched out its limbs and settled into the Plymouth landscape—bringing with it bare feet, warm evenings and sizzling sidewalks, sometimes hot enough to fry an egg on. Summer also brings another delight for the senses—craft beers.
A local non-profit is seeking to capture the camaraderie within the local home brewer community and help make the world a better place, one beer at a time. Behind this idea is Plymouth resident and home brewer Josh Janos.
“Brewing is my hobby, my passion. I brew about once a month, focusing both on new recipes and perfecting my favorites,” says Janos, who works at Target corporate offices in the strategy and innovation department.
Summer in Minnesota is fleeting: a few short months of optimal weather, bright sunshine, warm days and endlessly peaceful nights. It’s time to break out the grill, gather a few friends and pop the cap off a cold craft beer. Minnesota’s craft beer movement shows no signs of slowing down, and right now, the sipping is easy with a wide selection of delicious, light, seasonal brews to be found.
With about 1.2 million homebrewers in the United States, brewing supplies are in high demand. Having recently added homebrew equipment to the Beermeister inventory, owners Randy and Michele Mader, who were living in California, pulled up stakes and headed back to Minnesota, where the popularity of homebrewing is becoming nothing short of explosive.
After a sun-soaked summer of travel and play, the weather and the school calendar deem it’s time to stay a bit closer to home. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still get a taste of greater Minnesota and beyond. Let Tim Won and Matt McEiver of Sid’s Discount Liquors in Plymouth help you plan a progressive dinner that focuses first on the beers, then the food. Invite friends and plan a menu that highlights the best brews around, all while drinking responsibly within the comfort of your home. Who says nights in can’t be as good as nights out?
