Children’s Theatre Company brings Dr. Seuss’s beloved holiday classic back to the stage.

Rehearsals are underway at the Children’s Theatre Company (CTC) in Minneapolis for the upcoming production of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, an original musical adaptation directed by company veteran Dean Holt. The story is based on the classic holiday book by Dr. Seuss, and is set in the festive and snowy town of Whoville. When the cantankerous Grinch tries to ruin the local Whos’ Christmas celebrations by stealing their decorations, food and gifts, the town’s reaction teaches him a valuable lesson about kindness.

This season, Plymouth’s own Eowyn Scullard is a part of the student Who ensemble and has been cast as a Mini Grinch understudy. We connected with the young actress to learn more about the upcoming Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, which runs from November 3, 2026, through January 3, 2027.

What has been one of the most exciting elements about being a part of this production? Getting to be surrounded by people who enjoy the stage just as much as me and forming a special bond while also learning a lot from them.

Do you have a favorite memory from the rehearsal process so far? The first rehearsal we had when we were all in a circle to introduce ourselves. Seeing all the amazing people that I was going to be working with for the next three months, it made me realize this was going to be a magical experience.

What is one of your favorite lines or scenes, and why? Well it’s hard to pick just one, but I would say the scene called the Wild Ride where I get to be Mini Grinch. At the top of act two, there’s a part where they have Mini Max and Mini Grinch create the illusion of going down the mountain to Whoville. I love this scene because it feels like a roller coaster being up on the sleigh.

How have you grown as a performer through working on this production? The biggest way I’ve grown as a performer throughout the show is knowing that when you’re on stage, you’re actually not really performing at all. Our director, Dean Holt, taught us that instead of just performing to and purely entertaining the audience, we should be trying to tell a story through each and everything we do. I love this because it gives us a reason for doing everything and gives it meaning.

What do you hope the audience takes away from the show? That the holidays are a very magical time when spent with the people you love, and if you know anyone who is a little like the Grinch and doesn’t have anybody to spend [the holidays] with, be that person for them because you don’t know just how much that could mean to them.
