The Plymouth Ice Center offers ways to skate and spectate year-round.
Built in 1997, the Plymouth Ice Center—or to those in the know, “the PIC”—is a hub for skaters of all skill levels. “There are many things I enjoy about the ice center, but the most is the community that uses the facility,” says the PIC’s manager, Erik Halverson. “People are passionate about skating and playing hockey, and our building is one of the busiest in the state.”
The three indoor ice sheets are home to the Providence Academy and Wayzata High School hockey teams, but that’s only the start. “We also host various youth games and tournaments throughout the winter months,” Halverson says.
After the final buzzer, the rinks accommodate various open skate schedules and learn to skate classes. “These classes fill up quickly, so please register on the day registration opens to ensure your spot,” Halverson says.
Before You Go
Whether you’re planning to skate or spectate, be sure to dress yourself for temperatures between 40 to 60 degrees F. “If you are attending an open skate, the cost is $5 per person, and rental skates are $5 per pair,” Halverson says. “The cost for open hockey is $6 per person, and you must wear a helmet, hockey gloves and lower body protective equipment, i.e. shin pads.”
