Thanks to an exciting partnership with the Minnesota Population Center at the University of Minnesota, the City of Plymouth has demographic information that gives us a new way to quantify local history. For example, we have numbers to illustrate what an average Plymouth marriage was like in 1900. At the turn of the 20th century, Plymouth had a population of 1,164. Here is what a typical married couple and their household looked like:

  • Average age: 20
  • Average number of children: 4.51
  • Most common baby names: John and Mary
  • Women in the workplace: 1.09 percent
  • Male occupation: 89.1 percent farmers
