Winter sights are even more beautiful in the light of a full moon, and a stroll through the park in the moonlight sounds like a very romantic way to be with your valentine. Three Rivers Parks is seizing the opportunity of having a full moon on Valentine’s Day night to host this romantic snowshoeing experience in French Park. Do you miss golfing during the winter? You’re not alone. The Wayzata Chamber of Commerce has been organizing the largest golf tournament held on a frozen lake right on Wayzata Bay since 1984. Every year, a team of dedicated volunteers carve two 9-hole golf courses into the icy lake, and hundreds of golfers compete and have fun. This year’s theme is “Olympics,” so come dressed to win gold. Expect golf, a souvenir, all-you-can-eat chili, live music, prizes, giveaways and much more. Spectators are welcome, so bring the whole family. 952.473.9595.
It’s the perfect time of year to practice your ice skating, but it can be hard to make yourself go out in the cold. If you want to ice skate closer to heat, food and hot chocolate, then the Plymouth Ice Center might be the place to go. Bring your own skates, or rent some on-site. Ice fishing is one of the great Minnesota past times. Join other enthusiasts out on the ice at the easily accessible fishing holes, drilled close to plowed ice roads. Getting out to the ice is made easy with park-provided mats for easy passage through the snow. There will also be a special warming house. Snowshoeing is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise over the winter. Enjoy a guided hike through beautiful French Regional Park. All snowshoeing equipment will be provided.
