With Mother’s Day on the horizon, one thing’s for certain: It’s brunch time. John Farrell III, vice president of sales and merchandising at Haskell’s, has wine picks and a mimosa recipe sure to put you and Mom in a springlike mood.
He recommends the Silver Beach sauvignon blanc ($11.99) which features crisp, citrusy flavors and isn’t too sweet for brunch. Farrell also suggests the Fortant grenache rose ($11.99) a rose wine that’s dry and not too sweet.
For the quintessential brunch time mimosa, Farrell recommends using an inexpensive sparkling wine (try the Centenaire Brut, $12.99) in lieu of pricy champagne. “You really taste the orange juice and not the champagne,” he says. Proportions between the two ingredients can be played with to individual tastes. Farrell suggests one part orange juice to four parts sparkling wine, but the proportions can be raised as high as half and half to give a stronger kick to your pancakes and bacon.
